Everything You Need to Know About Who Really Owns Bayern Munchen
As FC Bayern Munich was founded in the early 1900s, it has truly come to be one of Germany’s most well-known and favorite professional sports teams over time. With that being said, FC Bayern Munich’s success and popularity within the Bundesliga and EuroLeague could not have occurred without the help of higher powers.
The CEO
The current CEO of FC Bayern Munich is Marko Pesic who is originally from Sarajevo, Germany. In his days, he was quite the victorious basketball player. He won many German championships, celebrated many cup successes, brought home bronze at the 2002 World Cup, and silver in the 2005 European Championship. Pesic remained in Germany for most of his career but ventured out to Italy to work for a while as well. In 2005, Pesic decided to end his very successful active basketball career. As Pesic had studied sports marketing communication and sports management he decided to take on the role of the sports director for the Bundesliga during the 2011/2012 season for FC Bayern Basketball. In January 2013, Pesic took over the management position of the team while maintaining his sports director position at the same time. Pesic is now the sole managing director of FC Bayern Basketball and his contract has recently been extended to the summer of 2025. This long-term extension of Pesic’s contract exemplifies the trust the team has in him. It is undeniable that Pesic has put his heart and soul into cultivating FC Bayern Basketball into one of the top international teams.
The President
Herbert Hainer is the current President of FC Bayern Munich. Prior to becoming the president, Hainer was previously the club’s chairman of the supervisory board. Hainer is originally from Dornwang, Germany, and studied business administration at Landshut University of Applied Sciences. Hainer began his career working for Procter&Gamble and then eventually moved on to a sports goods manufacturer at Adidas. Hainer held multiple management positions at Adidas which included being appointed to their executive board. Hainer helped Adidas increase the value of the company by twelvefold during his time there. Hainer eventually resigned from his position as CEO of Adidas. Although during his time there, Hainer was a part of Adidas’s purchase of a 10% stake in FC Bayern Munchen AG. Furthermore, this means Adidas was the first shareholder of the company. This business decision helped bring about the financial basis that laid the foundation for the Allianz Arena.
Hainer has always been an avid FC Bayern fan and used to be a decent player. Hainer is currently a member of multiple supervisory boards such as the Lufthansa Group, Allianz SE, and Accenture. He has been awarded many honors for his work in sports management such as the Bambi Prize, Image Award, Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Bavarian Order of Merit, Entrepreneur of the Year in 2005, and Manager of the Year in 2010. I think it is more than safe to say that Hainer is more than established within the world of sports management. Hainer along with the help of Pesic has made significant progress for FC Bayern Basketball and has big plans for the near future.
The Real Answer
FC Bayern Munich is largely run by FC Bayern Munchen AG which is a spin-off company of the club. FC Bayern Munich AG has a 75% stake in the club as of right now. Along with that, FC Bayern Munich genuinely has more than one owner that is in charge of the remaining 25% of the club. Ultimately, Adidas, Audi, and Allianz own roughly an 8.33% stake in the club. Despite this, the board members of the club are the ones who are behind the scenes of the daily operations at Bayern Munich. Bayern Munich’s net worth is said to be around $3.024 billion which makes them one of the highest-valued clubs as of right now.
How do you feel about Hainer's decision to extend Pesic's contract? How do you think this will benefit the team? What do you think would be good long-term goals for FC Bayern Munich to try to achieve?

Since it seems that Pesic has helped turn Bayern into a top basketball team in Europe, it seems like the decision to extend his contract was the correct one. The team should be able to sustain its success, however, and that is how Pesic should be evaluated by the president.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you on Pesic. He seems to be an extremely dedicated coach and truly has a love for the game. Although the team has not been performing well as of recent, do you think this is a reflection of Pesic?
DeleteKnowing how committed Pesic is to FC Bayern, I agree with the decision to extend the contract. As you mentioned, Pesic is a decorated basketball players and is clearly devoted to the team's best interest, and for that reason I don't believe there should be questions regarding the decision. As for Bayern's long-term goals, I think the main goal should be to become as dominant in EuroLeague basketball as they are in the international football stage.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with what you have to say and Pesic is extremely dedicated to Bayern Munich. How do you think they could become as dominant as they are in soccer in basketball?
DeleteIt seems to me like the team trusts Pesic and his leadership has helped FC Bayern basketball become one of the top international teams. Therefore, I agree that extending his contract could be beneficial for the team's continued success. FC Bayern Munich's long-term objectives are dependent on which areas they want to concentrate on. To stay competitive, I believe they could continue to spend in player development and recruitment if they want to retain their position as one of the most valuable clubs. Do you think this is what's best for their long-term goals?
ReplyDeleteI think it is easy to say that the decision to extend Pesic's contract was the right one to make. I do think that spending in player development and recruitment would most definitely help them maintain their position as a valuable club. With that being said, I think it is the execution of this that will be dependent on whether this is best for their long-term goals. I know that FC Bayern Munich hasn't been performing the best recently so sending on player development is a no brainer in my eyes. Although I do believe that there are many factors that play into this such as team chemistry, playing style, and the actual effort they are putting into their play. As of recent, it seems that some changes need to be made so it would be interesting to see what would happen if these plans were implemented.
Deleteit seems like bayren has a very good ownership model for me it is easy to make these people look good on paper but can be harder to understand if these are actually the best people for the job they all have credentials and are qualified to do the job but over all how do you think each one of these people manage their obligations over all
ReplyDeleteThat's a really good point that you make. I definitely think that Pesic is very passionate about Bayern Munich and truly wants the best for them. I would believe that he seems to be pretty qualified considering his contract was extended.
DeleteI like how both their CEO and President have roots in Germany, running a team from your home country must be such a rewarding feeling and shows their dedication for improvement. The two have more than qualified backgrounds which is great for the team and it seems like they are moving in the right direction. All in all I would say it was the right decision to extend Pesic, Its important for the team to think long term and develop their young players in order to stay competitive.
ReplyDeleteIt is very remarkable that both the CEO and President are from Germany. I agree with everything you had to say.

ReplyDeleteWow, this is so interesting! I had no idea about the history and behind-the-scenes operations of FC Bayern Munich. It's great to know that the CEO, Marko Pesic, has such a strong background in sports management and has been instrumental in the team's success. And the fact that the President, Herbert Hainer, is a die-hard fan and has such an impressive career in sports management is really impressive. I think extending Pesic's contract was a great decision, as he has clearly been instrumental in cultivating FC Bayern Basketball into a top team
ReplyDeleteTo achieve their long-term objectives, it seems to me like FC Bayern Munich should prioritize the areas they wish to focus on. If their aim is to remain competitive, investing in player development and recruitment could help them maintain their status as one of the most valuable clubs. What do you think about their long-term goals/what should be their approach to attaining sustained success?
ReplyDeleteI think extending Pesic's contract was a great move as he clearly cares deeply about making the team the best they can be. He was a great basketball player in Germany, so he is showing that he wants to continue his basketball legacy and bring more success to Germany. This will be very beneficial for Bayern. I think their long term goal should simply be to perform better in the league and attempt to make playoffs in the next few years.

FC Bayern Munich's ownership is very interesting. Great job with this post you shared a lot of insight on what goes on behind the scenes. I like the idea of giving Pesic an extension on his contract. It seems as though he is doing his job to a decent degree. What do you think the club needs to do in order to get a championship under their belt?
