"TRIPLE DOUBLE" STRATEGY
German basketball clubs pay their players well because the country has the fourth-strongest economy in the globe. With 18 teams in the German easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga, four of those teams have budgets exceeding $10 million USD, with Bayern Munich having the highest budget at $25 million USD. With the new year, they have a more effective strategy. However, is their strategy going to affect the small budget teams?
The easyCredit BBL has came up with the strategic idea to double their previous goals. Over the next three years they plan to:
⤷ Double club budgets within 10 years, with a combined budget of 200 million euros.
⤷ Increase TV, Digital, and Social Media platforms
⤷ Double the club's sporting success: increase with international competitors and tournaments
What is the objective "Triple Double"?
All of the clubs have decided to meet the following measure:
⤷ Minimum Budget: Double from €3 million to €6 million in 2032 for the 2032-33 season. Adding €500,000 every two years.
⤷ Minimum Capacity: minimum capacity of 3,000 seats (will be determined to the extent by the size of the home city)
⤷ Playing Participation: Teams ranked from 1st-6th by points, will have a secure spot in the playoffs. Teams ranked from 7th-10th will compete for the two remaining spots. More opportunities for the 2nd division team (ProA) to expand the BBL Cup.
⤷ Partnership: New partnership with DYN Media , starting 2023-2024 season. At least one full-time social media/ digital content manager required for every team.
⤷ Youth: More impact on elementary schools. The objective is to offer basketball at 15,000 elementary schools across Germany.
The Triple Double strategy will allow players, club, and fans to unite and focus on a common goal. With the average salary a player in the German BBL makes is between $100k-250k for the season, how will this Triple Double strategy increase income and the motivation of players? With a higher salary will come more sponsorships ad opportunities for the German team. How will this increase their ability to win more? More specifically, how will this help them win their first EuroLeague?

Thank you for sharing this information on the "Triple Double" strategy, it was a very interesting read. It's impressive to see the league's ambitious goals to double their club budgets, increase digital and social media presence, and improve sporting success. It seems like the German BBL is in an exciting phase right now, and it will be fascinating to see how the "Triple Double" plan affects the league's performance. I'm interested to see how the German teams perform on a global scale with their expanded funds and digital presence, as well as whether it will eventually result in the first EuroLeague victory. Do you believe it will bring a Euroleague victory?
ReplyDeleteHello Evan,
DeleteThat is very valid, it is an exciting phase right now. It will continue to be as the policy takes place. In all honest, with a little bit of more money, it encourages people more. Incentives will always encourage people. I believe the digital world would be so much beneficial to get information about the team more out. I believe that Bayern Munich basketball team will continue to grow, but they need more support from fans and the team itself. Right now social media platforms are the best way to promote something. If your tiktok, twitter, or instagram was filled with European basketball, would you be more invested? Do you think if it reaches more audience in the United States, people will start motivating the team?

ReplyDeleteI think that you did a great job explaining this strategy i also found it very interesting because i had never heard of this strategy i think one reason this strategy is so intriguing is because it almost motivates each player to boost there stats as much as posible sitch in some cases maybe bad but in this case i think i think it is actually a great way of putting competition with in your own club it motivates all the players with in the club to compete with each other and push them selfs to their limits and i think that makes more exciting for the fans motivating the fans to want to watch more overall do you think this strategy is beneficial or counterproductive?
ReplyDeleteHey Riley, yes I also agree that it's a good way to motivate players and creating a friendly competition between each player in a team. Yes, I do agree that it will be beneficial. The purpose of this strategy is seen as an investment for everyone: the fans, players, and team managers. It's going to be exciting to see what the teams will accomplish. What else do you think could be done to increase output?
DeleteThank you for sharing this information! I learned something new here that I found very interesting. I was a little surprised when I read the average salary was between 100k - 250k, it makes sense they are implementing this new strategy in hopes to increase that number. I wonder if the bigger market teams in Europe have ever proposed or thought of a superleague idea in order to increase profits and coverage. With this proposed plan though I'm excited to see how basketball will grow in Germany and with increased salary maybe it will attract more players from the U.S and even kids to skip college. Do you think this new idea could bring in more talent from the U.S to play in Germany?
ReplyDeleteHi Harrison, I know, it's a huge gap to the salary of NBA players. I agree, with an increase in salary, there could be major change for players playing overseas. I'm not sure if it would be ideal for the kids to fully skip college. But I think it could be good for more room in the NBA in a way. So there's more potential for the younger players. What do you think? Or do you think the European League could be good for starters? I definitely agree that there will be more talent in Germany.
DeleteAwesome blog on the triple double strategy. I find it very interesting to see that the German BBL is increasing team's budgets as well as increasing social media presence. This is a great start for them to improve their league and potentially make the jump into becoming a big and more popular league like the EuroLeague and the NBA. I am very interested now to see how this would affect this German league and how it could possibly improve. Do you have any clue as to whether this could be successful or not?
ReplyDeleteHey Charlie, yeah I agree! I think it will motivate them to do better in the EuroLeague since they have never won a title, yet alone make it to the semifinals. I'm hoping it will improve them in the long run. I think it will 100% make them better. Incentives make people feel so much better. Also, with more possible sponsorships and capacity in the stadium, it will increase fans. Do you think this new budget could increase fans? Will this allow the team to make better jerseys and have activities for fans, meaning include fans in more of their plans?
DeleteI found this post very interesting. I believe that this is a great strategy for German basketball because it addresses all aspects that lead to a successful league. The strategy's ambitious goals for team budget, stadiums, playing participation, partnerships, and youth will unite the entire league to create a more exciting and attractive league. This will ultimately attract more players and improve the youth development which will lead to more German wins throughout EuroLeague. The strategy proposes many goals in many facets of the game as well as the business side of the league. Which goal do you think is most important to ensure league success?
ReplyDelete- Carson Trimborn
Hey Carson, thanks for your comment. I think it will for sure attract more players. But definitely more younger and older players. For a team to be successful there should be foreign and domestic players. I think the goal most important is the sponsorship deals and the goal of creating more opportunities for the youth. The sponsorships will bring the money and this could be used to branch out more. I think involving the community will bring success, do you? What would be an important goal to ensure the success of the team?
DeleteThis is such a cool post! The triple double strategy seems to be a smart way to improve the league and will definitely benefit Bayern Munich. I think the biggest motivator for the players to win is the fact that there will be a bigger media presence, which will allow them to gain popularity and give them a chance at potentially making the NBA, where the base salary is a lot higher. If teams also have more sponsors, perhaps providing things with nutritional value, players will be better prepared off the court, for their performances on the court. What do you think is the next step they have to take to win?
ReplyDeleteHey, thanks Eli! A bigger media presence is a great way to start. I think that's really important for the players to also be like public figure and celebrities. It could be an important to establish a platform for all players. Especially how we see social media managers for teams in the US. They make tiktoks and instagram stories about players at the beginning and ending of every game. There could be popularity in doing that for the German players. Do you think social media could be a helping factor?
DeleteYes, I was definitely referring to social media, especially platforms like TikTok and Twitter because those are the easiest platforms for content to spread quickly to people no matter if they follow you or not.
DeleteThis is an interesting strategy to read about. If the clubs have the ability increase their budgets like this, then surely the money is there. So why haven't they already expanded budgets to compete better? I'm sure this increase in player salaries will draw higher caliber players to German teams and will have a positive effect on basketball in the country. I always feel a little sad when reading about how clubs in so many sports have such different budgets. I feel like it ruins competition. I love the NFL for its salary cap and how it levels the playing field. It gives fans of every team excitement and a feeling like any given year can be their year. I feel like some of that is lost in a league like the German basketball one where some teams have over five times the budget of another.
ReplyDeleteHey Aidan, I'm not sure as to why they haven't done so already. But I think it could be because of the lack of winning, there wasn't much coming back to the team. I agree, it is a sort of disadvantage that there is a salary cap and budget cap. If all times had the same budget, do you think the first team won't be as good and that there will be more opportunities for the smaller teams?
DeleteIt will be interesting to observe how this strategy affects the league's effectiveness, as well as how it influences player growth and fan engagement. On top of this it will be more interesting to watch how the league compares to other significant basketball leagues across the world as it develops and grows. The “Triple Double” plan certainly seems like an innovative approach that is set to take the German BBL by storm and I can’t wait to see how it pans out as well as impacts other league’s which may follow the model.
ReplyDeleteHey, yes I agree. It's definitely going to allow the German team to come up on the chart. It's going to grow competition among teams, players, and coaches! Do you think there will be a difference or a more strategic way for a team/coach to manage the triple double strategy?
DeleteI am extremely intrigued to see what comes about with this triple double strategy, as I personally think it will be very beneficial to the Euroleague in all aspects. With more money being poured in, I believe the demand and quality of games, teams, and the organization as a whole will be improved greatly. With the higher salary for players, I believe that more players from the United States and the NBA will aspire to play in the Euroleague.
ReplyDeleteYeah I am too! I think it could be really cool to see if it could bring in more players from the NBA. It would honestly be really cool seeing more players join the EuroLeague. I feel like this could motivate a lot of European players to be like the NBA players, it could create a friendly competition don't you think?
DeleteI found this post very interesting, as I had never heard of this strategy, and you explained it very well! I think this strategy is very smart when it comes to growing the culture and the brand overall, and I think it would be beneficial for more European basketball leagues to try out this strategy. Overall I am excited to see how this plays out and if it works!
ReplyDeleteHi Xander, thank you! I agree, it's a cool strategy to use and learn about. I'm also excited to see how it turns out. It's an interesting strategy, a lot of money and time is being invested. How long do you think it could take Bayern Munich to adapt to this? How long until we can see improvements?
DeleteThis post was very informative and explained well. I think the strategy will be very effective, and I specifically like the youth section of the strategy because it will encourage more future players to play in the German league. Football is much more popular in Europe which is why I think the players in the league are not as skilled. A capacity of 3,000 for the minimum seems small to me, what do you think?
ReplyDelete-Zack Korbin
This is a super fascinating strategy for this team to use. I think this could prove to work. I believe many NBA teams also implement a similar strategy. Do you think that this is the most optimal path at success for the team? Great job with this post, it was very informative and a fun read.
